Interview with Eddie Jacobsen / SIC

finnbands: Hello, how are you?
Eddie: I'm good, just finished the 7th song for the new album, it's called Cold & Black and is one of the heaviest songs we have so far, sitting with my guitar jamming it right now :)

finnbands: So you are busy with writing new material at the moment short before you will start your Tour ?
Eddie: Jup, we are trying to write all the songs before the tour, if not, then we need to finish it in the summer cause we're going to the studio this fall to record it. But, we work best under stressed conditions, it really makes us wake up and smell the coffee. Hoping to be up on 10 tracks by the end of next week. But of course, we'll need to write about 20 so that we can pick the best ones out for the album.

finnbands: The Band was founded by you in 2002 please introduce the other band members to our readers.
Eddie: Mikkjal Gaard Hansen (SicMik) is the vocalist. He joined the band in 2003. I was stoked when he joined as he is one of the coolest vocalists within the genre that I've ever heard.
Frans Jónas Arge Galán (Fransic) is the other guitar player, we hooked up with him in 2005, back then he was just a kid, 16 years old and a pain in the ass *laughs* ... but, we soon toughened him up and yeah he's family, a great guitar player and we couldn't do without him :)
Magnus Hansen, the drummer, the oldie, joined the band in 2005 as well. Playing without him is like playing guitar with one arm, we are a perfect team, write the songs and compliment each other all the time.
Gudmar Hansen (JaWs) is the bass player, he joined the band in 2005. Me and him go way back, been friends since we were kids. He's a bad motherfucker on the bass, crazy, the funny guy, a goof off, just gotta love him.
Then there's me, Eddie Jacobsen (EdFead), guitar player, founder and co-manager of the band. And Mik is saying: a fucking drunk, but somehow always manages to get things done.

finnbands: When did you start to play the guitar and what have been your first experiences in music business?
Eddie: My mom handed me the guitar when I was 9, she taught me some nursery songs etc *laughs*. When I was 12 I started shredding Metallica and Sepultura and was trying to start a band. When I was 16 I was fed up as there simply were no hardcore musicians where I was from and stopped playing. Then when I was 19 (December 2001) to be exact, I met this guy and we started talking about how fucked up it was that no one wanted to play metal, and it turned out that he was a drummer and I formed SIC with him in January 2002. The rest is history.
My first music experience was at this small shitty place back in 2002. In 2003 we played our first festival.
But it wasn't until 2005, when Magnus, Frans and Gudmar joined that the band really took shape. We started playing gigs right away and I started taking the whole management thing more seriously and began aiming at the world rather than just locally and here I am making this interview ;)

finnbands: Which bands/musicians did inspire you the most in doing exactly this music you are doing today ?
Eddie: For me it's been Sepultura, Metallica, Pantera, Meshuggah, Korn, Slipknot etc... I tend to draw influence from all of them. All of us have different music backgrounds, but that's only good, cause we mix it all together and try to make it SIC.

finnbands: Did you ever wanted to be a musician or did you had other plans for your future ?
Eddie: I always wanted to be a Rockstar :D
Yeah, music is my life; I enjoy every single aspect of being in a band, writing music, etc...
I know it's a tough business, that's probably why I started on my bachelor in International Communication & Multimedia; you always have to have something to fall back on. But having said that, I don't take no for an answer, if I did, I'd have quit this band long ago, it's a long way to the top, but I enjoy every step of it and I see myself doing this for years to come if we get big or if it'll be in the underground.

finnbands: Ok I don't need to ask the next question.
Eddie: Which was?
finnbands: It would have been: And how is it now, do you have a regular job or do you spend all your energy in the band?
Eddie: Ahh... well, I have part time jobs here and there to pay the bills but now the label is paying me to put the tour together

finnbands: Can you imagine a life without music? What would you do if you became deaf tomorrow?
Eddie: Uhhh... Noooooo!!!! Music is the universal language, everyone understands it! Can't do without it; guess life would be boring ha-ha... deaf tomorrow? I'd get depressed and blow my head off!!! ha-ha :D Seriously, that would suck so fucking much, can't even imagine how fucked-up that'd be.

finnbands: The Faroer Islands are a really small group of islands; I don't know any band that comes from there until I've heard about you.
Was it hard to promote yourself out of your country and how long did it took to get more popular over Europe?
Eddie: Jup, there are like 48.000 people living here and it is extremely remote, but we have a really rich music scene with good bands within all genres'. Another metal band that's touring a lot is Týr, they play Viking metal, really good band.
It was a battle getting our music out there, but after releasing the album Pandemonium things got a lot easier and we've been building it up, just last night we had to say no to go on tour with a really big band cause we're touring with Hatesphere in April by contract. So yeah, all the hard work is paying off.
But yeah, the intense promotion started when we released the album in 2007. So yeah, 2 years or something like that :)

finnbands: How does it feel to see your music spread all over the world and to play this big European tour now?
Eddie: It feels fucking AWESOME!! It's always a good feeling when things pay off. This time last year I didn't see SIC doing 50+ shows in a row, but here we are and I see this as only the beginning to a long career. When fans tell me that the music/show really made a big impact on them and all that, I mean that is the best reward for what we're doing, fuck money and all that. The fact that my band can have that impact on people is priceless :)

finnbands: Which country you are the most excited about to see ?
Eddie: Don't know really. I've seen all of Scandinavia, been to Germany once and have toured UK before. I'm looking forward to see all the countries, especially the ones that have Amsteel beer and maybe Holland and get some funny brownie there :D
I love seeing new places and meet new people, I'm sure I'll have a blast at every place we go to :)

finnbands: What is the most annoying thing on tour ?
Eddie: uhh.. the smell on the bus (when the bus driver doesn't empty the toilet) it's groose.. Other than that, don't think there are many bad things on tour.. some small stuff every now and then ... but overall it's really cool :)

finnbands: What is the most exciting thing on tour ?
Eddie: Seeing new places meeting new people and yeah, I love playing live, it's killer every time :)
Short answer on this one, but there's not much more to say about that ;)

finnbands: Do you take time on tour to write new songs or is that something that is working much better in your used surroundings?
Eddie: Hmm... well we have a guitar on the bus that we jam on and on this tour I recorded many riffs that most likely will be used, but we write the best music when all of us sit down and work together, plugged in etc we have our own way of writing music and the tour bus is not that good for it.. but we do write riffs on the bus :)

finnbands: What is your personal favourite song that you've written and that you like the most to play life ?
Eddie: On Pandemonium one of my favourites to play live are "My Hell" and "Reach Inside". On the album it's shut. But, all the new songs are killer to play live and I can't really pick a favourite... Maybe "Acid" and "Fuel The Hate" which you'll hear on tour.

finnbands: Where do you see yourself in 25 years?
Eddie: In a tour bus :)

finnbands: Ok now I'll just say you one word and you tell me what comes to your mind.
